Grito de Dolores

Happy Mexican Independence Day!

Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence day. In fact, Cinco de Mayo is not a federal holiday, but a regional one celebrated mostly in the state of Puebla. It commemorates the initial victory of Mexican forces over the French in the Battle of Puebla.

Honestley, I think Cinco de Mayo is just another excuse to party but who can aruge with that kind of reasoning? Today is a bigger reason to party though so a shout out to every Mexican!

VIVA MEXICO!

Making Something Outta Plastic pt 1

For Christmas last year, I decided to spoil myself. I bought a good amount of comics, manga and one thing that I'd been wanting for awhile. A Gundam model.

I had been skeptical to get it before because of the price tag. Something I wish to not share with everyone because a certain person (*coughFilcough*) will look at me and say "Gaby! I've told you before to stop spending your money at that place." She's like my mother sometime.

So I bought this model and with excitement began to work on it the day after Christmas. That excitement soon turned to frustration. The little plastic pieces were hard to keep together on some parts and the head of the Gundam was no cake walk to put together. Soon after starting I realized I was going to need more than just my hands. I searched for something to cut the pieces out of the grids holding them together. The problem was solved when I found a pair of scissors. With the solving of that problem, another one arose. Some of the pieces would not stay in place unless I got glue or something to keep them there. I did not have any glue around to help with that and I knew I couldn't use just regular old glue. After getting the head and some of the torso together I gave up.

Last week as I moved my things into my brothers old room, I dug out from under my bed the Gundam model. Not wanting to feel like I spent all the money for nothing, I got back to work on it. This time I had super glue on hand to keep some of the pieces that wouldn't snap into place together. I still didn't have something to cut the pieces out with so I carefully snapped them out of their grid. I tried to be as careful as I could, but soon I became careless. That resulted in snapping one of the pieces in half. After cussing myself out for being stupid, I did my best to super glue the pieces back together, hoping it wouldn't ruing the model too much.

After what seemed like hours, the head and torso were snapped together along with the shoulder pieces and the arms. As you can see from the picture above, I got quite a bit done within the 2 days I managed to slip some time in to do it. It's still sitting in my room waiting to be finished. I have more motivation to do so, but I just haven't found the time. I'm not giving up thought. This time I won't wait months to get to work on it.

Kat!

Cats makes nice pets. At least I think they do.

Can't say for sure since I am not a cat owner, but for the few hours I spent with a certain cat named Boca, I felt this was true. Boca didn't ask for much. Just some food and love. He's my brothers cat. Boca (which is mouth in Spanish) got his name because he likes to talk. It was really funny actually. I like Boca and I hope to see him again soon. Jorge says he misses me cause I feed him real meat.

Boca attacks the camera.

"Look into my eyes!"

First Post (typical title, I know)

First blog post!

Never thought I'd have one but with my brother up in Flagstaff I wanted to have a way to let him know what was going on down here in the ever hot and boring city of Mesa. Plus this is a good way to just post about random things that happen in life and plenty of randomness happens in life. It's the one area that it never fails at.

So in the week that he's left I've moved some of my stuff into his old room. I have my own bathroom now. It's very exciting. School started this week as well and all I could think of was how I wouldn't make it through the week. 7am classes are ridiculous, but not as ridiculous as getting up at 5am. I'm not a morning person especially when I have no coffee or other form of caffeine. I mean it doesn't really affect me anymore but having something nice to drink early in the morning makes the day seem nicer. The week wasn't looking too much better when my cars battery died yesterday. I was about to just give up for the day and lock myself up in my room. Thankfully my father came to the rescue and we got Dora (my ford explorer's name) to work again. Things have become a little brighter today. I've only been attacked by children which I suppose is an improvement over malfunctioning cars. At least that doesn't cost me anything. More to come!
